The Film

This documentary portrait of artist Bosko Hrnjak follows him from his formative years growing up among the Tiki apartment buildings in Los Angeles, to his unsung, pioneering work as the first individual to revive the lost art of carving Tikis and sculpting Tiki ceramics.

Accompanying Bosko on our journey are his co-conspirators in the Tiki Revival: his partner, musician Truus De Groot and his friends, cocktail historian Jeff Berry and author and urban archaeologist Sven Kirsten. Tiki forefathers Mike Buhen Sr. of the Tiki-Ti, and Disney Legend Rolly Crump offer historical perspective, humor, and their unique wisdom.

Featuring recently-discovered, rare archival material, lots of Polynesian Pop eye-candy, and a soundtrack including Les Baxter, Nino Nardini, and Roger Roger, “Bosko and the Rebirth of Tiki” has been lauded by festival audiences and Tikiphiles alike.
